A two fingered salute to parents, the rest of the Elizabeth Place community and the People of Haringey

Following a sternly worded letter from Haringey Housing, Regeneration & Planning, Paul Simon Homes put some equally sternly worded signs on the hoardings that two Haringey Assistant Directors had asked them to take down in a seemingly two fingered salute to our community

DO THEY MEAN ME???!

It's all getting a little personal, wouldn't you say... Warning to the public and a Notice to Parents - DO THEY MEAN ME?

I don't want to be taking this personally - but why the notice to parents?

ARE YOU TALKING TO ME????! As the parent of a paraplegic child - it would be a modern day miracle if they scaled that hoarding.
WARNING TO THE PUBLIC: THIS BUILDING SITE IS PRIVATE PROPERTY NO UNAUTHORISED PERSONS ALLOWED Liability will not be accepted by the builder for any injury sustained by trespassers

NOTICE TO PARENTS

"Parents are especially requested to warn children of the dangers and consequences of trespassing on this site"
Never has a truer word been written on a bright yellow sign and slapped on a hoarding surrounding an appropriated piece of public land.

The result of this apparent trespass has resulted in a sternly worded letter from 2 Assistand Directors and a Statement from Peray Ahnet, Leader of Haringey Council. https://www.difficultparent.com/peray-ahmet-leader-of-haringey-council-makes-a-statement-about-eliza...

Heed this warning children: Do not take what is not yours to take.

A stern word

Strongly worded letter from Housing, Regeneration & Planning: you can tell it's strongly worded because they've used bold and two Assistant Directors have signed it

Our Elizabeth Place community - not just parents

Guerrilla gardening

Our community that uses Elizabeth Place is not just parents and dog walkers.

The Grrrrrrr-illa Gardeners (more ursine than war-faring) are a group of local people who have taken it upon themselves to beautify Elizabeth Place through planting and horticulture.  They have worked hard though the past year to create a beautiful space in Elizabeth.  They are strongly supported by local ward councillor Isidoros Diakides who has helped them get a new water butt.

A new outside tap close to their beautiful garden is needed to help them every Sunday (11am) in their planting and seeding and pruning and digging and raking and other stuff and all the other gardening type things they get up to.

The pizza boys

As a pizza lover and a reluctant house leaver (over the past year anyway), one of the essential workers who have relieved the sheer boredom of lockdown has been the odd doughy yet spicy delivery to my door by the pizza delivery persons.

The pizza boys can frequently be found playing footie in the play space on Elizabeth Place on Sunday mornings and the odd morning during the week.

Just a reminder of what's in the Haringey Borough Plan - you kind of understand how Health Inequalities come about when in the same week we are complaining about a stolen playground in Tottenham, residents in Muswell Hill are complaining that they cannot play tennis on the public court of an evening

Residents have told us that their local environment is very important to them and it is the reason that many people live here. We want Haringey to be a place of green open spaces that everyone can access; a place where the already excellent transport links get even better; where people are active and live longer, healthier lives and a place where people feel safe and secure in their own homes and neighbourhoods.

We are committed to achieving the following outcomes:

  • A healthier, active and greener place
  • A cleaner, accessible and attractive place
  • A culturally engaged place
  • A safer borough

About 3 or 4 times a year we get the euphemistic message 'Parents please note we have put a letter in your child's bag' - its a world away from how a child's death was handled in my child's first school

More of a trial by ordeal than a well organised clearly set out administrative process for moving the care of vulnerable young adults from Haringey's Children's Services to Adult Services. We have been failed at every stage of the process.

Never EVER get on the bus without a camera running if you need the priority wheelchair space
By Brian Leveson 17 Sep, 2023
The reality of using a London Bus in the teeming rain on a Sunday afternoon is no joke when the parents of a paraplegic person in a wheelchair clash with the self-entitled buggy-pushing parents of toddlers.

At 3pm today I received some barefaced lies from Haringey Council Adult Social Care in response to a photograph I published online yesterday and the media interest it generated

Haringey SEND Transport are insisting that a 17 year old minibus with no air conditioning is a suitable vehicle to transport my paraplegic son in this heatwave. The appalling conditions inside the minibus inside the bus is something they knew about last summer, yet they have to date done nothing whatsoever provide a suitable minibus this year nor appropriately mitigate the temperatures inside the minibus. The conditions inside the minibus are so bad that they triggered multiple seizures during the heatwave as my son has epilepsy, which they SEND transport department know about and they also know that they are triggered by heat.It is not just son who is impacted: last year we know of one child who died on Haringey SEND Transport in the summer heatwave and another who had seizures.

I am simply asking a question - are we all absolutely certain that the road closure / travel restrictions (commonly know as LTNs) placed on some of the most severely disabled people who are wholly reliant on cars are absolutely necessary
By Brian Leveson 02 Jan, 2023
Haringey's road closures exemptions policy for disabled people is not fit for purpose, unduly burdensome and intrusive - it's time to stand up against the pro-LTN lycra-clad cycling bullies
By Brian Leveson 01 Jan, 2023
Is the argument for and against exemptions for disabled people in Low Traffic Neighbourhoods really a case of GOOD versus EVIL?
By Brian Leveson 31 Dec, 2022
Letters from Labour Grandees and survey results from Haringey Council show people who opposed LTNs are women, elderly and disabled. Yet Peray Ahmet has described anti-LTN people as homophobic, islamophobic, sexist, racist and xenophobic.
